Controlling HDMI Over Coax Modulators

HDMI Over LAN Matrix Switchers

Q: Is it possible to use DirecTV's free app with your WolfPack HDMI over Coaxial Modulators?

A: It's possible, yes. However unlikely if things are setup correctly. Main concern would be separation of coaxial networks. DIRECTV equipment should be on its own dedicated coaxial network. That network goes from satellite through switches and into receivers. If this network is being shared with anything else, conflicts may arise.

From the receivers, the HDMI transport of programming, into this RF modulator. From the Modulator to the TV’s, should be its own Coax network.

When things setup properly, you shouldn’t see any conflicts. This device is acting as a video destination for the receivers. Otherwise, there shouldn’t be any additional communication between devices, therefore leaving no room for conflicts to arise.

DIRECTV’s App for businesses requires the internet to function. If using H25’s Internet has to be injected into the coax network servicing the DIRECTV equipment, using a DECA (DIRECTV Ethernet to Coax Adapter) device. The specific setup utilized will determine how those DECA’s need to be configured.

QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) is utilized quite frequently in hospitality settings (Hotels, Hospitals, etc.). It allows for a single head end system to service the entire property using the existing loop through coax network.

The only caveat to your customers set up, is that if a specific TV wants to change channels, without changing any other TVs, they will need to use the TV remote and possible walk to that specific TV. Otherwise, when using the DIRECTV App, it will change the “Batch” tuned in to that receivers programming.

So, the DIRECTV app will allow the users to change the channels, on each DIRECTV receiver. This means, on a 12x46 system you will have 12 channel streams going at any given time.

This means that the 46-TV’s can tune into one of these 12 streams at a time. The DIRECTV app will not provide control for each TV individually. It will only be able to change what's being provided on each of the 12 streams.

Example. Input 1 is tuned to Fox, but they want it changed to NBC. Any TV’s watching Fox would also be changed to NBC. Any situation where they want to change 1 single TV’s channel will require the TV remote and walking to the TV and changing it there.
